Pointy boots
Ok, we have seen several screenshots now showing plate armor in Vanguard. We have only seen one style, and there will most likely be many more. I put this poll up because I'm slightly worried that the pointy-toed boots we've seen may be much like the mittens in EQII... designed to be in some way historically accurate and yet looking decidedly silly and out of place.
It sounds like the idea is that in medieval times, plate armor boots designed for riding were pointed in order to slip into the stirrups easier. In my mind, it's a fantasy game... you can make things work any way you want. There really doesn't seem to be a need to tack on realism in the form of silly looking boots or gloves. What does everyone else think?
It’s not a huge deal, certainly nothing that would bother me in the long run or detract from my overall experience… it’s a nitpick. But at this point nitpicking passes the time.

Pointy boots are cool. It's something different, anyway. =) Not sure I'm clued in on the EQ2 mittens issue.

The boots are not to my liking. In one SS the tip alone seems to be near to or equal to the Chars hand length. Atm they are just too much imho.

I voted "Who cares? Look at the rest of the armor graphics." That about sums it up for me. The only problem with armor I have had was in EQ (hated most of the helms) and in WoW where the colors don't match and don't look cool at all. Pointy boots are the least of my worries

Something worth pointed out though, is that for the same race, we've seen shots with and without pointy boots. So hopefully that's a factor of the boot itself, not the character model.

I like the pointy boots. It is a accurate depiction of what one would wear for horse riding at least. I had pointy boots myself when I worked on a farm during high school where I had to ride a horse quite often. I can admit they were not comfortable shoe attire, but pointy boots did serve their purpose and did it well.

Hm, Staunch just made me remember about cowboy boots (and I live in Calgary - cowboy capital of the world ) Most cowboy boots have pointy toes for that very reason...ease of slipping your foot in and out of the stirrups, and also reduces risk of being dragged if you fall out of the saddle and your horse is running.
I also hear (I've never worn cowboy boots, although I tried once ) that cowboy boots, once broken in, are the most comfortable things on earth to wear. However, this may not be true for chainmail or plate pointy boots.

Pointy ones at least for me never were comfortable. Now the more common kind of square front boot is a different story. I had the same pair of this type for five years and I admit, with Wolverine inserts, were the most comfortable pair of foot wear I ever had.

I have to say, I too do not enjoy the pointy boots. nor did I like the mittens.
Hopefully this is just an option thing, and you can change out of riding boots or something.

The problem with pointy boots is that when you wear them while punting gnomes, you frequently have a gnome stuck to your foot.

poor Gnome Life ain't easy
Anyway, I do like historical details from time to time. Of course, it's a fantasy game, and there are huge places for creativity. But some accurate details to remind me the Medieval inspiration is great... I love this period... We have castles in Heroic Fantasy MMOG, why not "pointy boots" (solleret is the right word ).
And there are a lot of design possible...
Thus, we saw those piece of armors on Thestran people... And Thestra is a European/Scottish influence... I'm sure Qalia will provide a lot of different styles...
It's nice I think... Imagine recognize the origin of a people by the way is looking. I like details
