Default The Real Reason for the Sigil - Microsoft Split?

Things that make you go "hmmm..."

As far as rumors go, I don't initially put a lot of stock into them; however this one has too many undertones of the truth for me to just pass it by. Joystiq is reporting that they have a "source" who claims that several Vanguard: Saga of Heroes developers have spilled the beans regarding the Microsoft - Sigil break-up. According to this unknown individual, Microsoft wanted to make Vanguard a Vista-exclusive title and Sigil, realizing that they'd be alienating a very large portion of their playerbase, nixed the idea.

Quote:
The fact that XP users wouldn't have been able to play the game (limiting the user base quite drastically) and Windows Vista's notoriously slippery release date being the obvious disadvantages of such a move on the part of Sigil.

Hmmmm.....very interesting.

I myself will be waiting 6 months - 1 year before even thinking of updating to Vista. I'll let you guys find all the bugs and exploits for me. hehe

Meh, I don't buy it. From reading various quotes from Sigil, it's more likely that Microsoft wanted an earlier release, not a later one.

And if Microsoft wanted a Vista-only MMO that badly, wouldn't they have made Age of Conan a Vista exclusive when Funcom signed onto Games for Windows? If you read the press release of that deal, it says Age of Conan will be on both XP and Vista.

There you've heard it, straight from the horses mouth

Don't believe everything you hear. I'm sure the reasons for the split were good reasons.

Hehe got to love it, the rumour mill doesn't get much chance to get started when the developers communicate so regularly with the community. Made me chuckle though

Gift.

All rumors aside *which should always be taken with a huge grain of salt, as they are all unfounded statements and speculative thinking*, it was a very very smart move on Sigil's part to buy publishing back from Microsoft, as I truely believe it is one of the best things that has happened to Sigil as they now have an iron hold on their games and how they wish to go with it.

Does this even have a purpose on the front page? I have to agree with Otarin, my personal opinion is based on release timing.

All "news" is on the frontpage. And even though the rumor has been nipped in the bud, it's still informative from the stance that should anyone else question the validity of such a claim - here it is for all to see

Since the rumor has been officialy denied, maybe you could put that in the news post as well. That way if people don't read through the comments (not everyone does), they'll know it's a false rumor.

So we fall back to the ship date rumor, care to confirm or deny that one?

Sneaky, I saw what you did there!

Oh and on the subject, proof positive that a lie can make its way twice around the world before the truth even gets its boots on: Ctrl-Alt-Del has a comic on this very rumour

Gift.

Aw, but our conspiracy theories didn't even get a chance to be typed up!

Much appreciated though (the bud nipping that is).

Maybe change the title to something like..

'I heard it through the grapevine'

'News from the rumourmill: The Vista Connection'

'Brad denies Vista rumours'

What about the rumor where Microsoft was replacing Sigil employees with POD PEOPLE... Brad and Jeff found out and grabbed some pitchforks and shovels and staved off the alien invasion Smed knew all along and also knew the only way to keep it from happening again was... DOUGHNUTS!!! So for the sake of their company and the game they teamed up in a secret pact with Krispy Kreme and created this Co-Publishing deal as a smoke screen for what was really happening?

What do you have to say for yourself Aradune?!?!

Well like they say, atleast they got some great press out of the article. LOL

I cant even see how this could be true.

We will never know the real reason for about 5 years down the road. Someone will spill the beans then.
