Default The Real Reason for the Sigil - Microsoft Split?

Things that make you go "hmmm..."

As far as rumors go, I don't initially put a lot of stock into them; however this one has too many undertones of the truth for me to just pass it by. Joystiq is reporting that they have a "source" who claims that several Vanguard: Saga of Heroes developers have spilled the beans regarding the Microsoft - Sigil break-up. According to this unknown individual, Microsoft wanted to make Vanguard a Vista-exclusive title and Sigil, realizing that they'd be alienating a very large portion of their playerbase, nixed the idea.

Quote:
The fact that XP users wouldn't have been able to play the game (limiting the user base quite drastically) and Windows Vista's notoriously slippery release date being the obvious disadvantages of such a move on the part of Sigil.

Hmmmm.....very interesting.

I myself will be waiting 6 months - 1 year before even thinking of updating to Vista. I'll let you guys find all the bugs and exploits for me. hehe

Meh, I don't buy it. From reading various quotes from Sigil, it's more likely that Microsoft wanted an earlier release, not a later one.

And if Microsoft wanted a Vista-only MMO that badly, wouldn't they have made Age of Conan a Vista exclusive when Funcom signed onto Games for Windows? If you read the press release of that deal, it says Age of Conan will be on both XP and Vista.

False rumor. So also is the one where they wanted us to make it Xbox 360.

There you've heard it, straight from the horses mouth

Don't believe everything you hear. I'm sure the reasons for the split were good reasons.

Hehe got to love it, the rumour mill doesn't get much chance to get started when the developers communicate so regularly with the community. Made me chuckle though

Gift.

All rumors aside *which should always be taken with a huge grain of salt, as they are all unfounded statements and speculative thinking*, it was a very very smart move on Sigil's part to buy publishing back from Microsoft, as I truely believe it is one of the best things that has happened to Sigil as they now have an iron hold on their games and how they wish to go with it.

Does this even have a purpose on the front page? I have to agree with Otarin, my personal opinion is based on release timing.
