Thanks for the clarification rabb1t. You, Fozzik, and a few of the other posters on this forum are most helpful with your honest opinions on technical matters. For a non-tech savvy person this is one of the first places i come to find unbiased info on non-game matters.
P.S. I hope i didnt sound too much like a shill :P

Um, wow.
http://www.directron.com/intelcore2.html
Some CPUs on the cheap (e.g. Q6600 for $288.99). I don't know much about these guys, but damn. Get em while they're hot I guess.
Edit: Well I guess it wasn't really as much of a markdown as I thought since NewEgg carries Q6600 at $295, but they had "regular price" at about $570 so I nearly crapped my pants.

That was before the recent price drop. The ~$275-300 range is the new price range for the Q6600.

Right, I realized that a bit later. I also looked at the Q6700 on newegg and in my excitement initially thought I was looking at the 6600 (hence the edit). So much for chasing links off of tomshardware.

Note that a lot of the old cores aren't worth the price any more. Most of the newer cores are faster/better/cheaper. (QX6700, E6600, E6700, etc.)

TigerDirect has the Acer 22inch monitor listed in the first post for 229.99 - 50 mail-in rebate for a total of 179.99. Shipping sucks, 21.01, but it comes out to 201 even for a 22inch monitor.

So I got my monitor the other day (the ACER AL2216W).. and it was terrible. Well not totally, but terrible enough. Dead pixels! 3-4 of them all connected at the very bottom row in the middle of the screen. A huge dead blob. Intolerable!
So I called TigerDirect and their CS is really helpful. I set up an instant exchange, he arranged a UPS pickup (free shipping back) and upgraded me to free 2nd day air on the new one. You have to actually pay for the 2nd one, but you get refunded for the first when they recieve it, but the result is no cost to you.
This one came in and no dead pixels! But wtf.. the monitor will only go from 1440x900 (widescreen) to 1600x1200 which make my desktop extend beyond the edge of the screen. Intolerable! The previous monitor, despite the dead pixels, did not do this. So this time I call Acer directly to see if it's a setting I missed. Yes, I had updated drivers already on the machine.
Of course I get the cold bitch who hates her job to help me. She has me turn it off and on.. duh. Then tells me its my graphics card being too weak. I'm like no, the last one worked. Then she goes quiet.. offers no help until I go *cough* umm so what? Send it back and RMA it.. okay, how do I do that. Mail it to us. Dur! Are you going to arrange shipping.. no, we don't do that. Click, I hung up.
Off to google I go.. and I find out that a wide variety of 1680x1050 monitors have this problem with Nvidia drivers. Most have rolled back to last Nov. drivers. I dig deeper and find that you can set a custom resolution to imitate the proper factory resolution and it works. Looks great! But I hate that, I want my junk to work plug 'n play style so I decide to give 163.44 beta drivers a shot. Presto, it works!
No dead pixels, updated drivers, plug and pray! Anyway there is my story. Monitor is wicked awesome too. Good quality, though it lacks a few OSD options that I would like to have but nothing that I need really. At $180 bucks after rebate for an 8bit, HDCP certified 22inch monitor, you can't beat it.

This 430W PSU is >80% efficient, rear-mounted fan, and made by Seasonic so it is very quiet. It is not modular and has only one PCI-E power connector (which means it won't power an 8800GTX or 2900XT), but for an 8800GTS 640MB or less system, this is a very nice PSU for a very nice price!
I usually say there are very few good PSUs under $70 and none under $50 but this is an exception. If you've been thinking about replacing an older PSU, snap this up while the rebate lasts.

$20 rebate for the EA430 is back on until 9/21/07, setting the price at $50. If you're looking at budget PSUs, keep an eye on Antec earthwatts PSUs because they seem to rotate significant rebates on them; for awhile the EA500 was rebated to the same price as the EA430's normal (unrebated) price.

I wouldn't buy either of these until the end of the month when the new 8800GT's come out. Well, unless you absolutely need a new card right now and only have 100 bucks to spend.

The excellent Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450W PSU is currently $70 + $8.22 shipping at newegg after mail-in rebate, but at zipzoomfly, you get it for $54.90 with free shipping after mail-in rebate! That is a STEAL.
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...tCode=10006428
SPCR review, HardOCP review
Has only one PCI-E power connector, so it won't run 8800GTX or 2900xt, but you would get better PSUs for those anyway. Not modular, but long high-quality sleeved cords.
Rebate expires 10/15/07, so grab it quick!

While I don't recommend them, there are converters. So you could get that second PCIe or that PCIe v2 connection.
