Default Could a pro share some thoughts on this monitor?

I was looking around in my local CompUSA yesterday and came across this monitor for $230. I currently use the Cybervision C92 19" CRT at 1280x1024 and have been looking to upgrade to a Flat panel for some time. I dream of the Dell2407, but its quite aways beyond my budget and Graphics card capability right now.

My System:
AMD XP2500+ 1.8 ghz
1gig Ram
Nvidia Gforce 6600 (no idea how to look if it has a GS or GT designation in DxDiag) with 256MB

So, any thoughts you have on the quality / value of this monitor and the ability of my system to run at the new resolution would be appreciated. I am open to non-widescreen options in this general price range if you can convince me that is a better bang for my buck.

Thanks,

Gizmo

Consider a slightly smaller screen - Dell 20.1" E207WFP $289.

I'd recommend the BenQ 20.1" at $269, as it has a standard res, while the one you linked isn't a standard res. (Not standard in that there are far less screens with that res than the 1680x1050 res.)

Hum... hum... being that you are about a full generation behind on everything you'd have some difficulty, but you also aren't using super high settings. I myself started with a 6800 GT hooked up to my 1920x1200 screen, so yeah, you should be ok, but you may be a bit behind.

I'd say go ahead and make the switch. You are bound to upgrade that system soon right?

Thanks Rabbit!

Unfortunately with shipping, both of those monitors end up being a$90 to $110 more than the Gateway one which I can get locally. Perhaps I'll just wait till I upgrade my system and try to save up for the Dell 24". $230 almost seemed worth it, but $330 I know isn't for now.

I really appreciate you taking the time to respond and link

So where do you live that shipping is ~+$75 to the cost?

I just checked out that WFP207 and it looks like a pretty good deal. I only use my monitor for my computer currently, and I don't think that's going to change.

But one thing I'm really going to need is the ability to rotate the screen to a vertical position, so that I can see many lines of code at once. Does this new WFP207 have the ability to rotate?

Also, can you plug it into a DVD player or PS2 or something and have it work? Just in case I actually use something other than my computer to game/watch videos sometime in the future.

Hum don't know. The page doesn't seem to say. E207WFP official page.

It's pretty minimal at the moment. I think most are moving away from the rotation feature as it's mostly unused.

The E207WFP is getting rid of the additional inputs as part of lowering it's cost. So if you want the inputs you'd want to look at the regular version, the 2007WFP. I wouldn't recommend watching DVDs on any LCD PC screen though if you can avoid it. Typically they aren't great for that due to the black levels and not dealing well with extreme fast transition (black to white flashing, such as with muzzle flair). Guess it would be ok though if you are in a dorm or something and 'its that or nothing'.

Alaska...

and yes, we get UPS Ground here, but shippers eems to like to charge extra anyways

Oh, and I visited my local CompUSA again yesterday and all the Gateway monitors are gone...looks like I wasn't the only one who noticed them. Oh. well, I think I might just try patience and save for the Dell 24

Thanks again Rabbit
