Appauling Sony Station, considering cancelling order.
Hey guys,
have been awaiting eagerly for vanguard for ages now, but have encountered a problem on the publishers side which may put me off it all together if their service is this appauling.
Ill just give you the run down on my problem, and lack of answers to it at such time.
I preordered the digital download of Vanguard off the Station website, with my Station account.
Directly after entering my card details and after payment i was directed to website where I could download the fiels to install Vanguard. I then proceeded to, with various downloads being cancelled altogether, as and i quote, " Sony server has been reset" appearing as an error about 4 hours into a 1.95 gb single .cab download.
ANYWAY, after downloading all the parts, and i had CLOSED the IE window with the download links,i then proceeded to install the game. About 30% in i came across a cyclic redundancy error on the .cab2 file, so i thought great, not end of world but i need to download the whole ****ing 2gb file again.
NOW HERE IS WHERE THE REAL PROBLEM starts. And Stations absurdly shit customer service.
So now i need to download cab2 again. I go to station website and of course it treats me like any user who is browising the site and hasnt bought Vanguard. So i decide to log in with my account to see if i cana cess the download web page for the game files. No. No such luck, cant find a link for the game files anywhere. I then proceed to click on the support pages, which dont even have a classified area for vangaurd which is utterly useless. I then tryed to find help several hous later whereas upon searching magically the links i was clicking on in the suppourt section managed to compeltely reset my email account and create a new one with the same name, lol absolutely ludicrous. and to top it all off now the support pages dont even work for me, just says IE cannot acess the page and is acting as though it doesnt exist.
Well theres the problem, I cant figure out how to get to the site to download the files. Ive paid my money and its given me the sitee once, ive spent hours trwaling through the site for support and help to find the ****ing page i payed money for to download the files.
IF anyone could help id gladl appreicate it, surely someone else must have this problem?
Well , despite this, I warn of Sony Stations SHIT customer suppourt, and to be honest am quite appauled by the compelte incompetence of their site.
Any advice welcome.
Cheers

Also, i reccomend this little program. Saved me from several disconects, etc.
http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm
(But yes, having just come from StarWars, also SOE, i was and still am extremely pensive about playing another game they are related to. I'm still not 100% sure i can play a game related to them and sleep at night. They just truly suck at everything. Sigil are my life-raft in a sea of despair, lol)

So with those 4 cab file down loads, I can go ahead and download them, and install them with out pre-ordering first, to see if everything is ok? I then would go ahead and pre-order and get an account code? That way I could see if everything is ok?

Had no problems whatsoever downloading the stuff from Sony@300-400kb/s.
Use a download manager and not the utter garbage that is IE and your problems could be much smaller. Especially with continuing broken-off downloads, IE and Firefox do not really shine.
Stuff was there in a bit over 5-6 hours and i installed the files fine.

Varel, thankyou kind sir, very nice of you .
I do have another further 2 questions though.
1: Can anyone gain acess to those files that Station are putting out by clicking on those links, as most of us all payed to gain acess to those links.
2: Are Sony Station really so stupid and incompetenet. Youd think a multi million pound expeirnced company like that might realise users may want to come back to their download account page and contiune at a later date?
Sorry im just really peeved at them, out of going past 10 year sof internet transactions and suppourt, Sony Station has got to have been the worst out of all of the, not only could i not find the download page, but upon entering their suppourt pages i got ****ed around more time than a Vietnamese prostitute.
Thanks again.

Sorry I had to post to just to reply to how stupid you are.
1) You don't have to re-download the whole file I had 4 disconnects on all the cab files. I got a free download manager and just resumed the downloads and it worked.
2) You can very much so get back to the download page again I had to do it and it is very easy, you click the Pre-Order button and it brings you right there. In the time it took you to write this rant you could have simply thought "well you can cancel a pre-order so I could buy it again" which was the same logic I used but of course it didn't charge me again.
3) Of course anyone can download the game but you can't play it without a verified account. People who download the game save the company in packing costs.
4) Sony is not the worst there are far worse companies to deal with online the top being canceling AOL.

Sorry, just to reply in your absolutely embarassing sense of logic that I should put you out of your misery.
Your argument for clicking the pre order button in order to gain acess to the download page again....Surely logic would suggest that would take you to a pre order page again, and not the download page, otherwise there would be a second buton for payed users to press it. Lol your logic of trial and error was right for you, but your argument is immensely flawed.
As i said with 10+ years of internet companies, Sony in my expeirence here is worse than AOL, hell at least AOL web support help links are actually working lol. HELL even sony doesnt include Vanguard in there list of help products lol.
Thanks for your answer, but my stupidity? please, look at your own post, click edit and start all over again.

SoE is great
SoE is great, as long as you don't need support, and if you like the changes that the loudest minority on forums yell to have.
Time and time again SoE, in games where they are responsible for development of in-game content, keep listening to the whining minorities on their forums, and change the games accordingly, angering the rest of their playerbase.
They ruined Planetside after they took over, and added a new "great" expansion.
They ruined SWG after they took over, and added a new "great" expansion.
They ruined EQ1 after they took over, and added several "great" expansions.
They haven't managed to ruin EQ2 yet, but hey, thats their own game from scratch, so go figure.
Luckily, this far anyhow, Sigil and not SoE is responsible for in-game content. As long as it stays that way, I have good faith in Vanguard. The same day Sigil, if they ever do, sell out to SoE, I'm gone from the game and looking for something new.
Thats not a threat, since I know threats have no effect in any online forum/discussions. It's merely a fact. One that I know many others agree with.
Just to take a slight stab at SoE to demonstrate their willingness to aid their customers... In EQ2, instead of making it easier to improve the game by sending in petitions, they took the whole petition system out of the game and onto a regular website, which is half wrong, half confusing and near impossible to navigate in order to place a petition.
Clear indication that they plain and simply don't want petitions from their customers. Just as they effectively removed the whole online GM staff in EQ1 once they took over there.
Help from, or complaints to SoE? You're better off buying a gun and taking a trip to their corporate HQ.
Please don't though... It wasn't meant as encouragement... seriously...
... put the gun down!

Just to be sure those 4 files are the only files I need to play the game? I know I'll need the verification key but I plan to buy a box set. I'd just like to have it on the computer already and just need to put the key in and be ready to go.
Thanks

My system is utterly clean (as clean as windows can be, lol). I'm very picky about what i put on my computer and especially about download managers. FDM did the job just fine.
Thanks for the heads up, but for it's purpose i't running np.
*edit
And i see that site had a link to McAfee. I'd sooner grate my manhood with a sea urchin that put that on my computer, lol.

The part I am in fear of is that Sigil will one day sell out to SoE. This very same team (when they were called Verant) did it with EQ. They know how to make KICK ASS MMOs...that was proven. Now will they keep it alive, or let SoE destroy it?
Don't do it to us again Brad!!!

I loath sony, lol.
But yes, those 5 files Donavan. Cab 2-5 and the VGD exe. THen it patches itself with teh latest bits and bobs after install.
Once it's fully unpacked and patched it's about 16 gigs+- but the d/l of those 5 files is only about 6-7gigs.

McAfee offers site advisor free, thats why. It is a McAfee product. Site advisor is a plugin for IE or Firefox and once you start using it, and it alerts you to some possible dangers, you will learn to love it.
Just because their antivirus sucks does not mean their other products do.

True enough, Adebisi. Still, i have had no roblems with the download manager and just ran another malware scan, nothing doing. I'll do a more hardcore scan later on, but seeig as FDM has served it's purpose for the time being i will remove it and not advertise it's use untill i can verify it's completely clean.

If and when Sigil does sell out Vanguard to SOE, it will be the last time I buy any game developed by Brad or his team, regardless what "generation" he claims it to be or what new company they decide to start.
