Thank you for the 2:nd installment! Very nice work .

I studied computer science at college, so playing games on computers was pretty much a given . I tried to introduce the glee of computer gaming to my then boyfriend, now husband, but he never really caught on . Later, I got our kids involved in this hobby of mine. My son loves it, but my daughter is only luke-warm.

My son was the one who introduced online gaming to me. He and I were playing Jedi Knight at the time, and he was really enthusiastic about the multiplayer aspect of it. I was sceptical at first, thinking only kids do this, but I agreed to try. And lo and behold, I found it to be really fun! Later, an online friend from Jedi Knight (indignantly - lol - I admit he was male) told me about EQ and I decided to go buy it and try it. I haven't looked back since .

After watching me play EQ on the day I bought it, my son wanted to have a go at it, too. He got a warrior and a monk up to about lvl 45, but he didn't stick with the game like I did. I find the earlier EQ demanded a lot of patience from its playerbase, and my son was simply too young for that then.

It's nice to see that some women are getting into MMORPG's by their own volition although I'm not surprised the majority are introduced by their significant other.

I agree that a future survey would probably reveal a larger number of women are beginning to make the choice themselves to play MMO's, which is great!

Very interesting article, thanks Raya!

Nice write up again Raya. Personally I was introduced to everquest through a female neighbor/friend. She was playing a lot and I watched over her shoulder for a while and then bought the game. Eventually I got my husband into it although he was never really hooked and he quit when I did.

Good stuff.
