Noobie Crafting Question
Ok so I just started playing last night...which will be apparent based on the stupidity of my question...
I was working on the Blacksmithing training quests and got to the second crafting one, where the problems are introduced (damaged forge for example). I honestly have no idea how to finish it and ended up burning all my materials and cant try again.
I got the grade maxed out, still had enough action points, but it wouldnt let me go any further down the series of actions...I was getting error messages saying soemthing about outside of the sphere or school or something like that.
So my stupid questions are....can I abondon and restart to get the materials back or can I buy them off of a vendor to try again? Also, any ideas what I was doing wrong?
Thanks!

if we were ingame I would try to walk you through it but here ....
Your tool belt that has the green check mark (on paper doll) is the one that has ALL of your tools in it that you will need.
Make sure you turn on Auto-Table setup at least till you get used to what you need to make things work (it's a check box).
Some complications require things like Bandages or Solvent to solve (many others too many to list) and you can't solve them without those items although in some cases it's best to ignore the complication and drive on through. So you will want to load a few items under Other on to your table before you press start (whatever items solve the current typical complications you get).
anyway when you start the recipe you will see a set of icons pop up with a * seperating them into 4 groups . you have to start on the left and work your way to the right completing each stages progress meter as you go . If you have 2 icons in a group you can work on either one you want till both are complete and you move to the next stage (here I like to finish the non-quality icon before the main quality one).
At each stage you use your points to move either the quality or the progress of the stage your on. Important note here is look at what your progressing (either quality or progress or both) . While quality is important it dosen't do you any good to hit grade A if you don't have enough points left or enough utilities to finish the recipe. At one stage (either 2 or 3) you will be using utilities (solvent or cleaner or fuel , some item you buy in stacks of 25) so make sure you have a few stacks of whatever your using so you don't run out on that stage before completing it's progress to the next stage.
Follow that and you should be able to get going .

To ad to what Adwaup said.
There are 8 tools that you can (and eventually will use as a blacksmith)
Before you begin any craft job, make sure that the tools mentioned in it are in the green checked pouch. For forge work, I have my hammer, stoker & usually the rasp (rasp is the most often called for tool for complications that i've seen up to my current level of 7). For smelting work, I keep the stoker, stirring rod, and the big one that looks like a metal detector in the green checked pouch.
Also having gotten to almost level 8 as a blacksmith so far, the utilities that you will be using are primarily fuel & oil. Otherwise the only utility I've had come up is water.

Elder, I am but little skilled in these matters. I have found the manner of increasing the quality of the thing I craft in this same making ( that of the Complication), but I also find all my skill lost and the matter not progressed beyond applying corrosive.
If I might seek of thy wisdom, in what manner may I apply my skill to advance the making progress rather than quality? For all I know is to apply more of the bottles in my store...
My thanks if ye may speak to this matter, and such small honour as I bear to thee and thy tasks if thy time or will does not allow.
Did ye ever hear tell of the Dancer and Dreamer? The Rose and the Thorn?

Peladon, If i understand your issue correctly, you're having problems running out of action points before finishing because of the amount required to increase quality? If I'm correct, you've run into the $64,000 question. You have to balance things between completion and quality. You don't have to get something to 'A' quality and have it be worth something, just 'C' quality. With the quality stage, there are two options with your consumable, one increases quality and the other advances your progress. You have to decide how much to increase quality and still leave yourself enough action points to finish your item.
Hopefully, this helps answer your question. If I misunderstood your problem, I apologize.

This seems really dumb, but I could not figure out how to "cure" the complications for a while. Then I moved the crafting window more to the middle of my screen and voila, there is a screen that comes up when you hit a complication that has solutions you can try. Don't know if that is affecting you, but it sure made me feel better to be able to do something about those pesky complications.

Elder Riggin, it is _my_ understanding that is clearly flawed and thy wisdom that is apparent.
I have crafted but little and have never seen any opportunity to use resource to advance progress in the manner ye suggest. I have simply applied resource ( forced OOC, whimpers in agony : clicked the ratted bottle...) and the quality progresses. I must seek a means of applying that same resource to advance the matter of completion.
My thanks for thy words, Elder.
