Pumpkin Pie: Part 2
Since Havelock hasn't posted any recent additions to the fanfiction area. I thought I would highjack one of his stories and write a sequel. If you have a problem with this Havelock I'll whine and moan, pout for awhile, and then delete it. So without further ado:
Pumpkin Pie: Part 2
Omi looked across the field and swore under his breath, “damn meddlesome neighbor. If he hadn’t interfered, Hagen would have been next month’s fertilizer. Omi put the dark grimoire in the folds of his cloak, and quietly walked back to his house. “At least his prize pumpkin is ruined”, he thought to himself.
The next morning Omi was cursing himself for using the last of his jelly to cast the spell last night. “I should’ve known that the spell was worthless, when it required jelly as an ingredient. Now how am I supposed to enjoy my PB&J Toast?” He pulled on his traveling clothes and began the long walk to town. A young halfling walking in the opposite direction approached him, “Hello sir, I’m looking for my uncle’s farm.”
Omi looked at the young halfling, “And who is your uncle, lad?”
The boy responded, “Elden Hagen Daz”.
Omi grimaced at the name and pointed to the charred house. “What happened to my Uncle’s house”, exclaimed the halfling.
“The Hell, if I know. That Hagen has always been an odd one. Don’t you turn out like him…err…”
“The name’s Valdemeric, sir,” said the young halfling as he gaped at the remains of the farmhouse.
“Well, you don’t turn out like him, Valdemeric.” With that Omi started walking again, leaving the young halfling to stand there and wonder where to find his uncle.

Omi arrived in town at about noon. He entered the general store and was surprised to find a human working behind the counter, instead of Thorin. “Who are you, and why are you standing behind Thorin’s counter.”
The human looked down at the halfling and responded, “I’m Brad. Thorin left about a week ago, looking for riches in the Widow’s Veil. He also took most of his metal goods with him. If you are looking for metal goods, I do have locks, but that is about it.”
Omi started scowling, “How about jelly? Do you have any jelly?”
“No, but, when we do, I assure you, you’ll really like our jelly.” Brad said through a wide grin, as though he were enjoying torturing Omi with a lack of jelly.
Omi grabbed a bottle of something called Secret Sauce, which looked like jelly. “What about these bottles of Secret Sauce?” spat Omi.
Brad grinned again, “We’ll have more of that later. Because of the limited supply, only friends and family are allowed to buy Secret Sauce.”
Omi looked up at this human, holding out on him. He put the bottle back and left the store. As he walked along the street, he began thinking of last night’s failure.
All he wanted to do was win the Pie Contest at the Festival, but Hagen’s pumpkin pies were always superior to his own. Omi grimaced at the thought of losing to Hagen for an eighth time. As Omi was quietly contemplating how to rectify the situation, Hagen, Valdemeric, and Sebastien came out of the carpenter’s house. “Hmmph, obviously talking to the carpenter to get another house built,” Omi said under his breath.
Hagen glanced over at Omi, “Well, what are doing out and about Omno Rous?”
Omi winced as Hagen misspoke his name, “It’s Omi Nuss, not Omno Rous!”
With that Omi turned on his heels and left the town. His PB&J Toast would have to wait. “That spellbook can’t be completely worthless”, thought Ominous. “Maybe there is a spell that can make my pie taste magnificent or his taste horrible.” The thought of that made Omi smile.
**********
The sun beat down on Sebastien, Hagen, and Valdemeric as the walked along the dusty road to Sebastien’s house. Valdemeric looked up at his uncle and asked, “Why do you not get along with Mr. Nuss?”
Hagen looked down at his nephew, though a moment, and responded, “Well, back when Omi and I were about 40 years old we were both members of the Holy Church of Jack, God of Pumpkin Pies. He had been trained in the Mage’s Guild in New Taragonor, and I had been a devote cleric of Jack’s for many years. He joined the priesthood in an effort to get out of the Mage’s Guild, and Jack takes in all who hold pumpkin pie as the greatest of all pie. The Mage’s Guild wasn’t pleased with the Church taking in one of their own, and soon tried to get the Pumpkin Pie religion outlawed.”
Sebastien began nodding his head to Hagen’s words as he remembered the events, Hagen described. Hagen continued, “This didn’t settle well for a devote, young human noble named Lothlann Winterfell. He managed to get a law passed declaring the Church of Pumpkin Pie the one true religion of the city of New Taragonor. You were allowed to worship any god you wanted to, as long as you proclaimed pumpkin to be the greatest of all pies.”
Hagen hung his head as he recalled the horrible events that followed, “Several people had a problem with this, especially the Mage’s Guild, since they preferred pecan pie. In response the Church of Pumpkin Pie began the Pumpkin Pie Inquisition. Lothlann Winterfell, Omi Nuss, and were placed on the tribunal that judges whether someone was a heretic or not. The power slowly went to Omi’s head and he began believing himself to be the chosen of Jack, the Pumpkin Pie in the Sky. He thought that we needed to begin a Crusade and slay all who were even under suspicion of being non-pumpkin pie eaters. Eventually, after Omi had Lothlann executed for glancing at an apple, the Church declared the Inquisiton over, and the King renounced the Church of Pumpkin Pie as the one true religion. It was too late for Ominous, however; the few pecan pie eaters in the Mage’s Guild cursed him to forever make him unable to taste pumpkin pies again.”
Hagen had both of his fellow travelers enthralled with his story. “We ended up both moving to the same area. He slowly became bitter at me for making better pumpkin pies than him. He could never taste his pie, to see if it was good or not. I believe he thinks that Jack has forsaken him, and he wants revenge against me, the Church of Pumpkin Pie, and the Mage’s Guild.”
With the end of Hagen's story, all three of the Halflings walked in silence until they got to Sebastien’s house.
