Sadly for me, there hasn't been a CD this entire year that blew me away front to back. There have been some great CD's for sure, but in nearly every instance, there was at least one song that just sort of didn't grab me.

I find Dragonforce to be an exercise in who can play the most over-the-top fast guitar solos possible. Believe me.. I've tried to listen to them repeatedly, because I don't always like something the 1st time I hear it. But I just can't get into them at all. Doesn't mean they suck, just means I don't like it.
For the longest time I didn't get Slipknot. Didn't like them, thought they were horrible. Then I saw them live and it all clicked. It's a circus. It's all about the live show, and their show is amazing. I've heard them called a Mushroomhead clone too, and I just don't see it other than they both wear masks. I found Mushroomhead to be boring and lifeless.
Avenged Sevenfold is a talented group too. I've been playing guitar for 22 years now, and those guys can play. I happen to really like what they've done on City of Evil and the new CD. I can't stand the 1st and 2nd CD though.
That's the beauty of music as an art form though. Nobody says everyone has to like the same thing, and nobody SHOULD always like the same things. My iPod has everything from Frank Sinatra to Slipknot, and a lot in between like Robbie Williams, Good Charlotte, Paganinni, and Andrea Bocelli.

The red coloration is a water soluable non-toxic dye.
The phosphates and sulfates in the formulation prevent combustion. They also act as a fertilizer once the fire danger has passed. The guar gum and hydroxypropyl are thickening agents to prevent dispersal of the Phos-Chek after it is dropped from the plane.
Though it looks like water.. trust me it's not. A friend of mine flies the S-2T Fire Bomber out of Ramona, CA and I've had a chance to see this stuff up close. It's seriously gooey, sticky stuff.

Yeah.. there really isn't a high rate of anything here.
This was literally just a perfect combination of a dry year, a BIG high pressure center over Las Vegas, and a low pressure center southwest of San Diego creating VERY powerful Santa Ana wind conditions, which of course drops the humidity down to sub-5% levels. So you have kindling + high winds. All it takes is a spark, which we got both naturally (downed power lines) and not-so-naturally (arson), which set in motion this whole firestorm.
What upsets me more than anything is even after the lessons we learned 4 years ago, we still had pencil pushers holding up the fight because of some really dumb things. The best example of which was the Cal Fire people not letting military helicopter pilots drop water on the fires until they were 'certified' by Cal Fire. These guys land on support carriers in the middle of the worst oceanic storms imaginable, at night, in zero visibility, yet Cal Fire says they can't drop water on a simple target like a fire until they certify them in fire fighting.
In times of need.. you need to fight the disaster FIRST.. and then worry about the paperwork when it's all over. Sickens me to no end how this was mis-managed.. AGAIN.

We've had a couple people lose their homes at SOE, but mostly it's just been evac's.
Overall things have gone very well here due to the preparedness of the government and the cooperation of the residents. When people have gotten the evac order, people have moved quickly. At Qualcomm Stadium yesterday we had more volunteers than people evac'd. The outpouring of support was amazing.

Anyone check out V is for Vagina yet? It's Maynard's (Tool/APC) solo stuff.
I like a good majority of the tracks. Some of it sounds like a better NIN and some is straight APC. Definitely different sounding than tool; way more synthetic. The tracks from the Underworld soundtrack are probably the best.

Let's face it: vampire movies tend to suck. Regardless, I usually see/rent as many as I can, especially direct-to-video flicks nobody has ever heard of.
With that said, this is one of the better vampire movies ever made. The look and feel is awesome. The cinematography captured the feel of the graphic novel (you can tell which shots are straight from the comic) without going over the top. It felt very gritty and realistic despite being cheesy horror.
The pacing was a bit off at times but it makes for a great survival horror film. Aside from the ending being very anti-climactic as mentioned above, the movie is very good all around.
The actors they got to play the vampires actually looked like they could be vampires without make up. Hartnett had a lot of decent scenes involving axes, people's heads, and axes inside people's heads. And 6 year old vampire girls are always a nice touch. Lastly, it has a few truly memorable scenes. The top-down helicopter shot of the city getting totally decimated by vampires while citizens with shotguns run wild was definitely badass.
