Alternate rule servers will make room for people who demand roleplaying, and I'm glad for that. Putting in a bunch of roleplaying caveats that really only appeal to a fraction of the player base isn't going to draw new people, it's going to drive their core customer base(you know, the EQ people you keep criticising, the one this game is basically being made for) away.
Correct me if I am mistaken, but these are supposed to be roleplaying games right? If it was action-adventure, that's different, but roleplaying to me implies there will be roleplaying.

I'd have to pretty much completely agree with that statement.Quote: Originally Posted by Valant Im concerned about the "true" intentions of these developers when they say they are making an immersive "RPG"...After EQ, a lot of us are a bit suspect.
Aw, I have faith in them. I'm sure Vanguard will not turn into another EQ. They have brilliant people in here. It is a whole new game. EQ2, for example, is not a whole new game and I would never play it.
And I'm sure Vanguard will have non-stat-adjusting hats you can wear, too. Probably not robo-ostriches though, but no ones perfect.

A roleplaying community and the ability to completely customize your character's appearance and such, to make the character your own.
I don't want to play an elf clone that looks like and is dressed like every other elf in the game. That's boring. -coughEQcough-. I've heard Final Fantasy is even worse with this.
And roleplaying should be enforced. Or if they don't want to punish the non RPers, heavily and blantantly reward the people who do RP. If they buy a roleplaying game, they should be RPing. But to appease everyone, they can throw a non-RP server in to lump those people together or something.
Oh, and to add to the immersion, gossip channels should be stricken. I've never cared for those things. Maybe something like a magic-thought network much like the Gweth network, but those just distract from the game. I turn them off, but still.

Dragonrealms has a good Health system that does not involve numbers. It lets you know your basic status (such as "Near Death's Door", "Good shape", etc.) and where and if you are bleeding, if you type Health.
Like in real life, if you are wounded badly you know that much, and you know that gushing blood is bad, but you don't know for sure when you are going to die.
It's pretty interesting, and more fun than seeing the numbers.

Class-less systems I favor heavily. That way you can really define your character; a fighter who has a healing talent, a mage who has trained with a sword in his/her youth. Good stuff.
There will always be people who powergame, minmax, etc. and try to make the "best" character. That happens in a class or classless systems. They will find a way to exploit any system to give them l33t skillz.
I think that's boring, but that's just my opinion I guess. I play to have a character I like that's unique and to have fun. Heh, guess I'm in the minority.

Quote: The SoW story
Now you see, that's the number one reason I stopped playing EQ. And I'm not talking about people asking you to do things, but about the complete lack of roleplaying. I had signed up for a ROELPLAYING game. Really, at the end of the day, it had no right being called an RPG, more like a 3rd person action game with RPG elements. People role-played as much as someone playing Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. And you can't even steal cars in EQ.
I had to quit, if I heard "SOW PLZ" or "sup" or "What lvl r u?" one more time I was going to go nova and destroy myself and everyone around me in a 5.8 mile radius. Quote: Attack of the Killer Gnome
That made me positively guffaw with laughter. Any story with the phrase "crazed sushi chef" in it is almost always good.
