I on the other hand, prefer a cut-and-dry ending. I like to know who's going where or doing what, who's alive or dead, etc.  Unless it is in the middle of a series, then it is permissible to end on an ambigious note. Otherwise, it annoys me terribly.

I'm highly uncomfortable with that philosphy, and it is one reason I do not care for war. War gets people killed that are innocent. A persons life is precious, they only get one, then it is forever sleep. Soldiers sign up for this, whether right, wrong, or somewhere in the middle. Civillians do not. I'm all for destroying people that deserve it, however.  These men and women have chosen their path and wasted their life doing something such as serial killing, genocide, etc.
Assassins and strike-teams are better to take out individuals (and it may not always be possible, but it is always better).
