0 Battlefield 2 Demo Released! O F F I C I A L    V A N G U A R D    F O R U M S
Jun 24, 2005 - 01:42 AM - by Thude
WHO DARES WAKE UP THUDE FROM HIS ETERNAL SLUMBER!

Do you realize what you've done?! My spittle is more powerful than your pathetic video game skills. Scores of men have died by my...NAY...Tens of scores of men have died at the almighty click of my left mouse button! I have defeated entire legions of armies whilst supping on roasted beast from my local "Way of the sub" sandwich! Mock me if you will, but I must warn you that you will face a wrath and a fury so powerful that you will beg for an eternal concert from Brittney Spears!

Gird up your loins YE WHO ARE MEN and face me! Do not enter the arena of battle unless you are prepared to KILL ME! Doing so will earn you my respect, but WOE TO HIM THAT CANNOT COMPLETE THE TASK! It would have been better for him to have been born as a RODENT'S BOWELS....constantly pressed against the utter filth that a lowly rat's brain determined was not proper for it's body.

Hey, I really enjoyed meeting all of you guys. Arnie isn't as scary in person. Anyway, it was a pleasure meeting all of you and thanks for being so supportive of our game.

Oh and thanks for the gifts Maleficence! I'll be using the reference material.

it's funny you mention that.

0 Tools of the trade O F F I C I A L    V A N G U A R D    F O R U M S
Apr 15, 2004 - 10:29 PM - by Thude
As mentioned, we use Maya and Photoshop mostly. Sometimes we use black magic with a few sacrificial chickens thrown in for good measure.

More important than any tool is just good old artistic talent. If you practice on that you'll be fine.

Right, the key word there was modern. What I was getting at was that everything will look like it belongs in a fantasy setting.....as art directed by Keith. So his paintings should give you a good idea of what we're going for.

Except for the cell phones. We do have dwarven cell phones in the game. And it's really cool because you can get your own Tom King face plate. Oh and the ring tones are awesome, very fantasy like. Just please don't talk on the cell phone while you're driving your wagon.

There will be no items that look like modern sunglasses...or modern anything for that matter.....except the game.....that will look modern.

0 Bestiary = Cool! O F F I C I A L    V A N G U A R D    F O R U M S
Mar 21, 2004 - 08:17 AM - by Thude
We'll have plenty of Sigil original creatures as well as traditional creatures. Eventually I hope we can put "start to finish" pictures on the Bestiary as well. By that I mean from concept to final model in game.

Hey. I'm working on the monsters in the game and just wanted to let you know that I am doing my best to accurately represent Keith's concepts. We all decided that we wanted to make one of Keith's paintings come to life. That's our long term goal.

And as for the spiders. I just finished one today.

0 Texturing Flesh O F F I C I A L    V A N G U A R D    F O R U M S
Mar 13, 2004 - 07:10 PM - by Thude
Hair is tough. There are several different ways to do it, but ultimately it's going to come down to which way doesn't bring the frame rate down to 2. This is something I don't have the most knowledge on. I'm sure Ryan (our graphics programmer) could explain all the latest hair technology, but we should probably keep that secret until later in development.

As far as hair texturing is concerned, I would say that hair doesn't really need a bump map at all, or at least very slight bump. Once you stick a bump on there it tends to look like a plastic molded hair piece. It looks as though you just used an entire can of Aqua Net on your head.
