Is this ok with the moderators? I don't mind addressing people who are upset or negative and I have a pretty thick skin, but if this person has commited himself to post here in order to try to get people not to buy the game, I likely have an issue with that.

This game have suddenly SO MUCH potential you should run to it and play until it reach this potential, yes go go !!!

Wait !! Are they going to implement ship fights in EQ ??? Run to EQ man !!! Ruuuuuunn !!

who cares about the potential, anyone can say his MMO will be great in 1, 2, 3, 4 years ... When the game is release, I expect to play a game which IS great to play, not a game that WILL EVENTUALLY be great one day
Well over 100,000 are playing and enjoying the game right now, so I'm fine talking about the future too.

Even the message boards with negativity are a sign that people like the game. When people are passionate about something, when they really care, some subset of them will voice their opinions about how the game could be even better, or some issue that is bothering them, etc.

The sure sign that you have a dead game is when nobody is posting.

I've been on the boards a while now -- like 10 years -- and I've read flames and threats to quit and negativity and even put up with personal attacks. When did I encounter this mostly? When I was in charge of EQ and while I was watching it climb from zero to 455k players. Now I'm seeing similar passion, whether it be praise or complaint, regarding Vanguard. This is good. It means we have a community. It means we can engage in a dialog.

64 bit systems?! Most people have the chips or will in a reasonable time, but you need an OS that supports it. Redmond's idea was/is Vista. The bestest operating system out there (maximum sarcasim). While it might be usuable eventually, it certainly isn't at the momment – at least for playing games.

I have 4 four Vista system's I support for research software and they bloody craaaawl. And these are programs written for multithreading running on Dell's (yeah I know that could be part of the problem there) latest offerings designed for Vista.

Even if they can get the client re-written for multithreading and multi CPU, counting on Microsoft to help them out is retarded. MS already bailed on Sigil once. Do they have to learn leasons twice?

I mean if Linux somehow did more then great great tech or Macs weren't so darn expensive, Maybe he could have his 64 bit dream. Sadly we live in world were Windows is the OS.

I just hope they aren't counting on increases in tech alone to help with their performance issues. They are making the CPU do way too much work. subcontract ti out to other processors or something.

Just my take anyway. Over all I really liked what he had to say. I just hope it actually happens the way he einvisions it.
Haven't messed with Vista a lot yet, so I can't really comment on what you say other than it's certainly in Microsoft's interest to fix and update their OS as can be evidenced by how often XP is updated when you use automatic updates.

All that said, I am using XP 64 right now and this is my primary game machine and the PC I play Vanguard on. As long as you don't put a bunch of crazy peripherals and cards in it, needing special drivers, it seems very stable. In fact for me, it's more stable than XP 32 and also faster in general and about 5fps faster in Vanguard.

No Chunking issues? Hey Brad, your chunks behave a lot like zones. Do I need a x1950 to resolve that? Just about everything resets when crossing a chunk. Wonder if Brad has tried grouping from more than a chunk away? If he did, he would realize a problem. One final note, you don't have a seamless world till mobs can regularly go across these chunk lines, and graphically speaking these chunk lines should be invisible. If these chunks are so seamless, why is that everyone learns and knows where they are?

So we are now funding your expansion team to get more money from us too?

Another thing that irks me is that he doesn't even post this on a real fan afflicate site or the official site.
I've said we're sorry that the game was put out a bit early, but that it was something beyond our control. You can be upset at that -- I sure was, although there's nobody really to blame. So we have to rapidly fix things, and that is frustrating for both players and devs.

That said, looking at the bigger picture, these games are never truly done, and that's the best thing about these games IMHO. And yes the money coming in from monthly fees does indeed pay for live and expansion teams (or at least the first expansion -- then the first expansion can pay for the 2nd, and so on).

In general we shy away from hard dates because things can go wrong. I'd rather have people complain that we are vague and then be pleasantly surprised when something gets fixed, then set a date, miss it, and have people feel let down.

Also, please don't confuse our higher priority right now, which is balancing, fixing bugs, etc., and then focusing on the high end content in the existing world, with while very cool, low priority new features that will have to wait. I don't think the wait will be that long as we are patching often and getting a lot of issues addressed.

Um, no. First I did define what we mean by seamless and why I think it makes for a more immersive game. I later addressed chunking speed and said that while there may be some improvements the best thing you can do is upgrade your machine, that I barely notice chunking, and then others posted likewise.

As for bugs associated with chunking, like losing your pet, falling through the world, and even just annoying things like having to hit auto-run again or the fact that your ship goes from full steam to sitting dead in the water, these are all things we are aware of and that bother us too as we play and are high priority to fix.

I did mention it and state that it's going to be the future. I apologize though, but while we have a lot of it planned out already, it's one of the few post-launch Vanguard plans that will have to stay sekret sauce for a while.

Comeon these guys (Sigil) arent stupid. LMAO remember when someone for like the 1000th time asked about why no forums all Sigil said was "well look into that". Aww but some are so blind I can hear it now.. Its not Sigil its SOE they wont let them..

Anyway Sigil could really have a winner here. I just hope they dont give into ever little cry baby..
I'm posting here at someone's request and will give it a shot. That said, I do agree with you about the signal to noise ratio -- it's almost as bad as at mmorpg.com *sigh*
