You know, from this side, I don't think things have gotten any worse than other times in our history. Each time there has been a burst of new information released, we have seen an influx of new people and gotten lots of threads and posts that are unacceptable on our forums. Glip usually loses a few nights sleep as he warns many of the new posters and tries to get them under control. He eventually has to suspend and/or ban a number of people and then things quiet down and get back to normal.

We have seen this pattern since before we announced Vanguard. But the community is now a lot bigger and a lot louder. So please be patient. We haven’t changed in what we want for this community… it just gets harder to keep things in check as we get bigger. But we are committed to doing all we can to keep this a place where ideas can be exchanged and discussed in a mature and civil environment.

As for not hearing much from us since E3, we have said before that you won’t hear much until we finish our transition over to SOE. Launching a game of this magnitude takes a lot of careful planning. Everyone here and at SOE is working hard to get everything in order so we can move forward and start releasing more information to you and the rest of the general public.

We really appreciate that you have so much enthusiasm for Vanguard that you would be this anxious over a few weeks of no new information. But be patient a little longer and we will have lots of new info for you. I promise!

Thanks for hanging in there with us through all of these changes. We will do our very best not to disappoint you and to give you the best game we could possibly make.

Hey all-

As many of you know, I have been away for a while having some necessary surgery done. It is great to finally be getting back to work.

A lot has happened while I was gone and some things have changed. We changed publishers, we released a lot more info and our community has grown like crazy! Welcome to all of you folks that I have not met yet!

I have also noted some changes that make me unhappy. While we are thrilled with the increase in the number of community members and the rising number of posts, we have also seen a disturbing trend in some attitudes here on these forums. I have even seen these things referenced on other forums.

We welcome all comments, questions and opinions from every member of our community, provided the poster stays within the guidelines of our forum rules. All are welcome to express their opinions (whether positive or negative) as long as they are not being abusive or offensive to others (again, as defined within our forum rules).

There seems to be a disturbing trend lately to call down those that are in disagreement. I see a lot of sniping and name calling going on. And since we welcome everyone that comes here, I do not appreciate forum members telling people to go away or go back to another game.

This is not what we want for our forums and we will not allow it to continue. Glip has been very busy the last couple of days doing a lot of banning and suspending. And last time I checked, he still wasn’t finished for the day. So fair warning- this behavior is not going to be tolerated. Consider this a friendly reminder of the rules of the forums. Take a minute and read them again.

It has always been our goal to keep the atmosphere here welcoming and open to all opinions. If you truly consider yourself a Vanguard Community Member, please take responsibility for helping us to keep it that way.

Again, it’s great to be back. I can’t tell you how much I missed being around here!

0 Email Response Timeline O F F I C I A L    V A N G U A R D    F O R U M S
Feb 08, 2006 - 09:44 PM - by Abigale Seashadow
Our response time really depends on the nature of your email and what's going on in our department at the time. Both things play a part in how quickly we can respond to you.

The first issue is our time and the amount of email we receive. I get an average of 400-1000 emails a day to my various email addresses (depending on activities going on in the community) and I know Nick gets a very high number as well. I spend a portion of each morning just sorting through emails... deleting spam and then prioritizing what emails need to be answered first.

This brings me to the issue of the content of an email. An email to ask for Beta or to ask me a question that is already answered in the FAQ goes straight to the bottom of my list. Quite frankly, those emails will likely never be answered. I just don't have the time to answer them all.

Questions or issues relating to board access or community issues are top priority, as are communications with our Affiliates and other fan sites. So Nick and I sort out who is going to answer which emails and get through them as quickly as we can.

If you have emailed us and still have a question that you have still been unable to get answered elsewhere, email us again. With all of the spam that we get, I am sure we miss legitimate emails here and there as well.

There was a time when I answered all of the emails that came into the community team personally. But with our numbers growing, it's more and more difficult to answer everyone. So thanks for your patience.

You know, every time I hosted a Fan Faire, the hotel staff was always surprised at the group that showed up. On average over 50% of the attendees were between 25-35 years old. Couples and familes attended together regularly.

Over and over, I heard comments from hotel staff along the lines of, "Since this is a group of gamers, we thought they would all be awkward, teenaged boys."

And then they would always be surprised at how much fun we all had. More than once, we left behind copies of EQ for hotel staff that couldn't wait to start playing after meeting all the folks that attended.
