Yes, we will. When registration opens next week, you wil also be able to sign up for an appointment for a job interview.
We hired several people from the last Fanguard and will likely hire more from that group as our development progresses. We will have lots of positions to fill over the next months and years. So if you have wanted a chance to get your foot in the door of this industry, this is a great opportunity!

There are plenty of non-partying types that attend and enjoy meeting and hanging out with other non-drinking gamers. In fact, it's not uncommon to see families attending together.
It's kinda like playing an MMOG... the trick is just to find other people who enjoy the same play style as you.

You are correct. There are a few rooms listed on their site at these rates. But once those rooms are gone (there were 12 of them listed last time I checked) the normal rates will apply and they are more than $250 per night. Once the rooms start being reserved and they start selling out, you will not be able to get this rate without referring to the Fanguard to get your discount.

I also notice that getting a deal for that date is $199 on their site already, is this your doing or do you have some special package.
#3 Are there any age requirements, as who I would bring would depend on this, I sure hope not though, but better safe than sorry.
If there is anything else I can think of I will post it.
Other than that, I am tight for cash (college and all) but I really hope to make it, considering I can drive there from Monterey!
#1. You can bring a guest that is not a Vanguard community member (such as a spouse). The fee is the same for them. But keep in mind that to win any of our contests, you will need to be a registered member. So if your guest is not registered, they won't be eligible for those.
#2. The room rate does apply to two in a room.
#3. If you are under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult to attend Fanguard.

About the room rate-
Yes, you can find cheaper hotels in the area. There are plenty of cheap hotels in San Diego. But you will not be able to find similar hotels right on the Marina like this any cheaper than the rates we have negotiated. Location and the type of hotel it is are the biggest determining factors when it comes to room rates.
But please consider the Sheraton if you can possibly afford it. This hotel is gorgeous and has several bars and restaurants throughout the facility. I did an event here once before (yes, Dorian, it's the same hotel!) and the one thing I can tell you is you won't want to leave! At these events, people tend to spend a lot of time at room parties and in the hotel bars. If you stay offsite, I promise you will hate having to drive to another hotel after hanging out and partying all night.
The other thing is that the more rooms we use, the lower our costs. Since these events are designed to pay for themselves, I do everything I can to keep the fees as low as possible. So selling more rooms in the facility helps me plan bigger and better events each time.
I know not everyone can afford this rate. But it's extremely reasonable for the type of hotel it is and its location.

Hey all-
I wanted to give you a heads up as soon as possible that we do plan to host a January Fanguard!
Registration will not open until after the holidays. But I wanted to give you as much notice as possible so that you can mark your calendars and make travel arrangements.
When: January 27th-28th
Where: The Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina
Cost: $80
This event will begin with a ****tail party on Friday evening. Saturday will be filled with opportunities to see Vanguard, interact with our team and get to know your fellow gamers. There will be contests and prizes and finally, we will conclude the event Saturday evening with a banquet.
We have negotiated a room rate of $199 per night at The Sheraton. Don’t try to make your reservations just yet though…. It will be a week or so before they are ready to take them.
There will be more information after the holidays. But contracts are signed and this event is going to happen. So I just wanted to give you as much notice as possible to start making arrangements to get here.
Ask any questions you have here about the event and I will do my best to answer them here.
Each event has gotten bigger, better and more fun than the last. Don’t miss out on this one!

Ok, folks… let me step in here. I will do my best to explain what we are planning and why we have made these decisions. This plan has been being discussed for quite some time and is not something we have taken lightly. I was hired as the Community Manager for Sigil 3 years ago to build and develop this community. So let me assure you, its health and welfare are at the top of my priority list.
One of the factors in this decision is resources. As we have entered Beta and approach release, you have all seen the changes that have occurred here on these forums. Nick and I monitor the boards as much as humanly possible… but between the two of us, we can barely keep up anymore. Can you imagine what these forums would be like after release? We could hire several more moderators and we could spend a huge amount of our time moderating these boards. Or, we can support the communities that are already forming and growing around the fan sites. All of us agree here that we would prefer to spend our time and money making Vanguard the best it can be.
So let me explain a little bit about how this will work. As we stated in the other thread, we will still have a Tech Support Forum. News and official announcements will still be readily available on the Vanguard site. Server issues, patch messages and other information that you will find necessary will always be easily found here. But your comments, questions and interacting with your fellow players are what will be migrated to the Affiliates.
When our boards are shut down, we will instead visit our Affiliates' forums on a regular basis. All of our team members that you see posting regularly here will be posting on those forums instead. In addition to moderating the forums, the sites will also be giving us regular feedback about posts and threads that may need attention. For example, if a site admin sees that there is a huge thread complaining that a quest is broken, they will contact me and I will see that the appropriate designer is informed and responds to the concerns.
Obviously, saving time and resources is an important factor. But it will also simplify things for us. We believe that it will be easier to sort through and read several moderated forums and address the most prominent questions and concerns of each one than to hire several moderators to sift through hundreds of thousands of posts to find the ones that really need our attention.
I would like for you to also keep in mind that as this plan has been in the works for some time, we have developed the Affiliate program with it in mind. This is one of the reasons that we ask that Affiliates go through a somewhat lengthy process to be accepted. We get to know these folks well. We have met many of them personally and talk on the phone and online with them regularly. These sites have proven that they are committed to providing for the community and they have demonstrated to us that they are trustworthy. We monitor them closely. And if they do not meet the standards we set for our community, they are dropped from the program. So please don’t assume that just any Vanguard site will be trusted with this task.
We are making this move because we believe it will benefit and strengthen our community in the long run. I know some of you are unhappy about it and some of you will downright hate it. And you know what? It might not work out the way we hope. And if that happens, we’ll reopen the forums again. But please try to have an open mind and see how it works out.
Honestly, I am sad to see this happen myself. It’s been wonderful getting to know so many of you and it’s been quite a fun ride so far. You guys are great and I enjoy these forums as much (if not more!) than any of the rest of you. But I truly believe that in the long run, this is the right move to make to be able to keep our communication flowing and to hear as much of what you have to say as possible.
