Quests come into play after you've done some Civic Diplomacy. Gather some information, turn it in, get clothes - trade them with your friends to get better sets.

Our quests start at 25 Presence, though we have an info belt quest series going in soon that requires only 15 Presence.

0 Courier's quarter horse pointless? S I L K Y    V E N O M
Feb 13, 2007 - 01:14 AM - by Aruspex - SGO
As has been related, your Young Courier Horse is an upgradable mount as you gain skill in Diplomacy. At skill 200 you will soon be able to upgrade your horse to a rank 2 courier horse (5% slower than rank 2 storebought), and skill 300 you will be able to upgrade to a rank 3 courier horse.

Rank 4 and 5 are also in the works, but we're not ready to talk about those yet.

For those of you who ditched your Courier Horse, a replacement will be offered if you meet the conditions for it.

I think what triggered the bug is that I spoke to the magistrates in the order of the list in the quest description and not in the order stated in the sentence just below the list.

OT: Chi Sau Lotusfield was very difficult but I finally found a strategy with only 3 cards

Hi folks. I made some changes that should make things a little easier on you if you lose the thread. You can pick up the quest again (if you dropped it) from Windwalker, Aurora, or Threecranes.

You guys are mind-readers!

Yes, there is going to be upgrades to your diplomacy horse - we intend for you to have it gain speed and stability through quests.

And the faction loss for losing a civic parley is going down.

0 Some "State of Diplomacy" Stuff S I L K Y    V E N O M
Jan 31, 2007 - 09:40 PM - by Aruspex - SGO
Hi guys - I posted this originally over at the Diplomacy affiliate VGTact.com, but I wanted to share it with a few of the other sites I frequent so the word gets out:

"A few quick notes as I drift off to some sleeps.

There are a lot of valid concerns here. I'm willing to face the music on these issues, so do not feel like you need to pull punches. You _will_ get better response out of me if you're constructive - and so far, even the "worst trolls" have had some constructive criticism in there.

I'm working tonight on a little device we're calling the "Altar of Kaerellun" - which allows you to trade information for cards, adventuring items, prestige items, etc. this should help relieve the bank slot pressure while we expand our content.

The deck lockouts/civic dip lockouts and such went in before the patch notes. That was a simple slowdown in the patch note pipeline, and I see it's since been corrected. We're doing another change that I'll tell you about right here so you will be prepared when it happens (in case the patch notes don't update within a couple hours of the servers coming up when they get patched in):

- Starting in the next code patch for the game (I'm not allowed to reveal our patch schedule for non-content stuff), you will not be able to parley with an opponent more than 50 points greater than you in Diplomacy.

This goes with two other fixes, which are:

- You cannot gain more than one skill point in a single parley.
- The time in which you are locked out on a win with a single NPC on a single specific conversation is increased.

As we tweak the AI for our decks, we watch player response closely. When you have a group of testers who know the game inside and out, the only way we can truly understand the difficulty of the deck is 1) math, and 2) look and feel when they hit Live. We have folks doing the math, and we have folks doing the look and feel thing - and then we watch how it plays.

The level 50 deck thing is my top AI/deck priority while we work on coding in new functionality for the AI to be able to handle more situations in parley. It is not the only thing we are working on.

As we put in low-level content, we also have resources allocated to putting in some upper-mid-range stuff - the sort of thing that shows you what you can DO with Diplomacy. I'll give some hints in the next weeks, but we're saving the proof for the pudding.

In all my experience with MMO communities on both sides of the looking glass, I have never seen a more enthusiastic, inspired, and motivated team than the one I have the honor of working with. Coupled with the outstanding and the gratifying response of you, the players, this system is a diamond in the rough. If it wasn't for you guys, it would never be shaped into the amazing thing that it is becoming.

We're no fans of the cheating either. There's a number of knobs and dials we are playing with the affect the difficulty. Right now it's a technical necessity that the NPC cheats 100% of the time, but we have a setting that reads your deck as you play.

Except in a few very specific circumstances, however, the NPC still plays with the same number of cards as you.

As for decks that are too hard - please let us know about them. A few slipped through our testing and we're eager to get them locked down.

My skill is 55, and there is no card vendor around anymore.

Quests are already all over the game world - almost all of them give out more cards. Ask on the dip channel (/join dip) on your server - likely someone knows where you can score a card or two.

Also, civic diplomacy in most cities can grant you up to 5 different cards, depending on which levers you pull.

I'm not really talking yet about the content side of Diplomacy. Hopefully you all will be pleasantly surprised.

As for Akherat's concern, yes, it's a valid concern. Setting expectations is a big deal in this industry, but more important is managing them.

Diplomacy is a new gameplay style - its in its infancy, and will likely only be grown to a bright child at launch. As the game grows, you'll see Diplomacy grow as well.

But there's things that simply will not happen. One of them is facial animation. Bethesda used a third party system to be able to play their face-morphing game (which was a fun mini-game for a while). Our system is more abstract than that, and based around personal skill and strategy.

The cues I refer to up above are things like clothing, names, titles, location in the city, rumors you hear in other Diplomacy, etc. etc. etc.
