These are all things that should be in new gen games. | Why?
Having those extra races and classes doesn't in and of itself make a good game. A game with 37 races and 25 classes or whatever looks impressive on a box I guess, but if they're not unique, fun to play, and work well together within the game, then you still fail, regardless of impressive bullet points.
I think you'd be far better served by a smaller number of well developed, interesting races. As for classes, I'd much rather use a skill based system to let players develop their own class/playstyle. Something along the lines of the way UO did things. Want to be a fighter? Invest time in fighting to build skill. Want to do some magic? Work on your magic skills to build them up. Of course, you only get a finite points pool, so at some point putting more into magic will detract from your fighting skills.

Companies are formed to make money. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves. Nobody, save for non-profit orgs and such, goes into business for the greater good or enjoyment of people. Nobody makes games for the pure enjoyment of it without regards to profits. I guarantee you, if 989 Studios didn't think EQ could make a profit, it would not have been made.
The reason Pardo and Co. spent so much time polishing WoW is they knew very well that the gaming public would no longer forgive bug-ridden games that weren't fun to play. They also knew that someone releasing a fun, polished game were going to draw in a LOT of $$$. Nobody however, had any idea that WoW would be this large.
I make games because it's something I really love, and fortunately, someone thinks I do it well enough to pay me a salary for doing that thing I enjoy. I probably couldn't be doing this though for free. I need to pay the bills just alike all of you (well.. except Sean).

Good read. Lots of good info in that article for sure. I think the biggest lesson to be learned there is not to set out to beat WoW. Just set out to make a fun, high-quality game. One thing you cannot do is be so afraid or against copying anything WoW did that you ignore the lessons learned from it. I think it's pretty obvious that trying to make the anti-WoW doesn't work, but that doesn't mean only a WoW type game WILL work.
I don't agree with everything he said, specifically on the limited choices and character deletion topics, but most of it seems solid.

I forget... Was she Milli or Vanilli? I struggled to watch that video, and I can't find a single moment in it where she ACTUALLY sang anything. I wish I understood why anyone puts up with this crap.
Sadly the people she caters to will eat it up. She'll be a hero to the masses for overcoming all of the drama with her ex and the media..
And whoever is her manager should be fired for allowing her to go out onstage in that outfit. Someone should have just said no.
