As Jtoast said as of today I am no longer with the company.
It has been nothing but a pleasure working with everyone, it is unfortunate when any company has to go through this, but I'm confident in those left to work on Vanguard.
You're a great and passionate community and have made my first steps in the industry a unique and fun ride. I wish you all the best!
Thanks for the experience folks - I'll be around

Elrar, this was the stance Square-Enix took for years on FFXI. It didn't work. For every character that was deleted/banned or god forbid temporarily suspended, the same RMT company/group/individual would just fire up some of the 50 other accounts they had ready to go and continue duping/botting and selling away. The game economy was out of control for years until they finally took a hard line and started banning RMT accounts as well as any accounts under the same credit card or matching name and address. After 3 years of being subject to the whim of RMT things are approaching a viable in-game market. Yeah there are still RMT and probably always will be, but they are no longer in control of things.
I think the last message I received from RMT about gold was offering something like 50 gold for twelve bits ($1.50 for you youngins). I play casually - I'm a level 37 adventurer with 25 carpentry. My toon might be worth 25-30 gold (at current prices) if I was strip it. It sucks that someone can get what I have for less than a buck and not put any effort into it.
Nuking the dupers and all of their accounts, and eighty-sixing their credit cards and names/addresses is a tactic made of win! I strongly urge you to consider it.

Absolutely - but the comment you quoted me on was a broad term, under that could be any player not just those working for Secondary Market companies. We run IP searches on all banned accounts and do thorough investigations and stings constantly and monitor the cash flow and email spammers through automated processes but more importantly from player reports.
A majority of our ability to stop RMT sales in Vanguard comes from the communities help.
I hope that clarifies

Look its about time to just man up and delete the duped money across all servers. People that will whine about 'hard earned money' being deleted oh well. Its dirty money, you know when you start getting paid hugely inflated prices for stuff that your recieving dirty money.
Putting in measures to drain money out of the economy is not a solution here. Your going to end up doing things that reward the people that took advantage of the massive influx of duped cash. Or you'll penalize those that stayed away from it.
Some ideas on the table are probably a casino type thing, spend lots of money for a chance at a really nice or unique item. Maybe temporary vendors where you can buy rare and or ultra rare resources. All the gear made from these will be BOE so the money will sink out of the economy. Perhaps we will see consumables put into game. Heal pots, buffs in a bottle, illusions, etc. Maybe even the ability to use bribe money to pull levers instead of using diplomacy. All reward the people that have lots of the duped gold.
On the other hand your left with increasing the costs of repairs and/or items such as arrows or components used by crafter I.E. Fuels and such. Which will drain money but penalize those that haven't made a bunch of cash due to the inflated prices.
But I guess its all about numbers. Less people are likely to stay away from the dirty money. You'll piss off a larger portion of the playerbase by deleting the money. Less cancellations by taking money sink route.
Another problem with not deleting the duped money is that it also shows that sigil does not have the conviction to take a shot at the RMT problem. Deleting the duped money will strike a blow at them, granted they will recover they always do. But it will also make people think twice about buying gold if in fact the gold they bought is deleted.

There is no question that if we are able to determine that a player has duped the coin he now owns that the coin will be removed and the account disciplined leading up to the possibility of the character itself being deleted.
We are extremely dedicated to combating the Secondary Market in Vanguard, however, wiping money from those who did not take part in the Secondary Market or exploit should not be penalized and we will do everything we can to prevent that from happening.
The economic problems are not as drastic as some may think, do they exist? Yes, but a money wipe is a very distant thought at this point and as stated before we have many plans in the works to resolve the abundance of coin in the hands of legitimate players that do not negatively impact the game.

I agree, i think we deserve some kind of responce from Brad or a dev on wtf is going on. When i say "wtf is going on?" i mean:
Anyone?
|
1. Are they fixing the dupe bug?
- Absolutely, however, while we know what the problems are fixing them is another issue that is top priority.
2. Whats being done about the destroyed server economies such as tharridon and so fourth.
- We have several plans in the works that are not drastic and do not negatively effect game play.
3. Whats going on with Sigil and SoE talks? Werent we suposed to get an answer to this 2 weeks ago?
- Like in all business's these discussions and the details are often private, even to the employee's of the company. I cannot discuss anymore details than have already been mentioned by Brad's initial post.
4. Status of game?
- I'm not the person to comment on this besides to say that we're still working on new content daily and especially focusing on existing bugs to improve the game for everyone.
I know you're concerned and all want the best for the game, and we do as well. Thanks everyone, we'll have more information to share as soon as we can
