That's largely true, and I still plan to keep my desktop PC for things like Vanguard. I've got a big project I want to work on more often but I don't work on it as much as I'd like to because it forces me to spend my weekends in the computer room. My wife can't stand to sit and watch me code for more than about 5 minutes before she ditches me for the living room or the backyard. It gets lonely back there all by yourself.
Yea, I've been reading up on mobile stuff today at anand's, I guess Intel's got that new centrino dual out now and it sounds pretty decent. As for mobile GPU's, I have to admit they're more powerful than I realized or thought they would be. That Dell M170 probably benches higher than my desktop does.
The 8200 is a personal box, the tablet and dell m70 are work machines.
The tablet PC (Toshiba Protege M200) is defintely superior to the 8200 - the screen is smaller however performance wise it's quite nice. The original tablets were underpowered. Things have defintely changed. They even have a larger version of the tablet now.
The M70 is defintely is one of the fastest computers I have ever seen to date. It actually outperforms most desktop machines - that will eventually change but I'm enjoying the speed. I can run games in 1920x1200 at 40+ fps on it.

Right now I'm using a hand-me-down Dell Inspiron 8100 laptop, 1.13Ghz 512Mb with some old/crappy nVidia mobile chipset. It works, we keep it in the living room for web & whatnot.
But,
It's heavy
It gets uncomfortably hot if you leave it on your lap. So it's even heavier due to the fact you gotta put a book under it or something to insulate your lap. It's a PITA.
Photoshop CS2 / Visual Studio 2005 performance could be a lot better. I'd like to do dev work out in the living room but... it's killin' me on this thing.
Gaming is limited to titles circa 2002
And I think this laptop's HD is failing...
So I want a new one. Something light, more powerful, hopefully that doesn't get too hot (if that's possible). Gaming isn't super important, but... we have a brand new 50" plasma in the living room that can do 1366 x 768 res, right now we watch netflix rips on it with the dell laptop. Might be cool to check out a modern game on that setup. But that's not why I got the TV or why I want the laptop, so that would just be a bonus.
Looking for suggestions on a good, light laptop for dev work where gaming is not a priority or just good brands/model #'s of laptops you own. Looking to keep the purchase under 3k.
I have an inspiron 8200 that I just upgraded a bit. I added 1 GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM hard drive and it did wonders for the speed of the box. It's still not a gaming machine but it's great for photoshop, visual studio, etc.
In terms of new boxes - I have two current laptops that I use.
I have a M170 Gaming laptop from Dell. it's a complete desktop replacement machine and isn't great to travel with. But it's super powerful in every single way.
The second (working) machine is a decked out Toshiba tablet. Those boxes get pretty good performance, have great battery life, and are very portable.

In any case, other than that one point, I agree wholeheartedly.
We'll everyone doesn't like every game - I simply picked some of my personal favorites from our portfolio. I actually enjoyed Kameo quite a bit once I got past that horrible first level. But I will also admit that my selection of games is quiet diverse.
And that Paul Allen boat is crazy.

when i used to play on zone .com it seemed there was a lot of first person shooter ect type games ect. that had third party sites if i have labled it correcty
that had cheats n hacks by the dozen for the games does microsoft have any plans to stop this for an mmo like vangaurd?
Cheats that work in peer to peer games largely don't apply to a client server based MMO. There are certainly some exceptions though. That said Sigil and Microsoft are commited to insuring that Vanguard is a positive environment for our customers. Can I promise that the game will be cheat free - no. But I can promise that we will work hard to stay ahead of exploiters. But it can be a bit of an arms race.

Another Anti-Microsoft – please don’t make this WoW thread! Most excellent I haven’t answered one of these in some time.
First off Microsoft doesn’t spend millions of dollars on a game without knowing the kind of game we are going to get. It just doesn’t work that way. We have a clear understanding of the vision that drives Vanguard and we are behind it 100%.
I’ve seen the elitist anti-WoW anxiety in the past and I don’t understand why people are so afraid. Vanguard is not WoW, we know this and we have no desire to make the game WoW. And I would like to state that WoW is the result of a lot of love and care by the hardworking engineers at Blizzard and I am happy that they are enjoying their success. But their game is different from the one we are building. The MMO audience has grown and I am happy to see more people enjoying these amazing games.
Back to my point - As a publisher we understand that to be successful you need to have a suite of games that are directed at a wide variety of audiences. Example – We have 2 driving franchises – Forza Motorsport and Project Gotham Racing(PGR). One game is aimed at the racing enthusiast and the other is aimed at the arcade racing fan. Both games have a place in our portfolio. Forza fans aren’t panicking about the game turning PGR because they understand that the franchises are separate.
Lastly you’re giving Brad and co. credit for building and executing on a great vision, but you aren’t giving them any credit in selecting a publisher that will enable that vision. After leaving Sony they had the pick of the litter and they choose to work with Microsoft in the same way we choose to work with Sigil.
As for Microsoft making great games – I respectfully disagree with the sentiment that Microsoft hasn’t built great titles in the past. Age of Empires, Halo, Project Gotham, Forza, and Kameo are just a few examples of the great work that’s being done in Microsoft Game Studios. And in terms of MMO’s- Asheron’s Call was (and still is ) a successful and profitable game.

I logged into FFXI on Xbox 360 to see what it was like. I was able to reactivate my character and I was shocked to see that teleports were now 3000gil. They used to be 300gil when I stopped playing. Clearly the farmers pushed inflation through the roof. The 2 million gil I had in the bank suddenly didn't represent the money that it used to.
Frankly I don't have the time to commit to FFXI that I used to but I really did enjoy the game. A key issue was that people tended to ignore the cooler monsters - golems, giants, demons, etc. In favor of fighting the low risk mobs - Turnips, hares, crabs, etc. They really need to tune the risk vs. reward ration in that game badly.
My wife would often comment on how awesome my party was. 5 people with weapons, armor, and magic vs. a walking vegetable. Songs would be sung about our bravery....
