I don't think it will take a long time, but Gebron could answer better. AA naturally accompany taking advantage of the newer cards, as AA is virturally free with the newer cards and won't slam the framerate.

Its no problem if we have to wait a little bit longer for the german translation. But will we get a german server and will we get a character transfer so we can start with the us release and join a german /eu server when the game is released in germany and eu?
|
At first it will be Europe in general. Once we have localized versions of the game, they will be language specific I would guess.
I wish we had this at launch -- es tut mir leid. But again we have done the best with the time we have had and you have our comittment, a very strong and sincere one, to keep making the game better after launch, including localization.

We the beta testers do our best to find and report bugs, and I am sure you had many more people reporting the dupe, as you had abusing it, but...
We do not spend all day, every day, trying to break/abuse the game, to the point of personal gain. If hacks happen, how prepared is the current Vanguard system to deal with it?
|
Beta is a time to find as many exploits as possible, although undoubtedly we will find some post-launch. Testers that report exploits first are what we are looking for, as opposed to using them and either a. not reporting them or b. reporting them after they've taken advantage of the bug.

@Funkey:
I'm running an AMD Athlon 3400+ and 1 gig of RAM... recently got an ATI Radeon x1950 Pro (for less than $200 even) and I can run VG at the highest quality setting with only little issues in massively populated areas (even then endurable and worth the quality). Modern game engines highly utilize the GPU more than just about anything, so a video card upgrade will get you the best performance increase.
|
Very true. GPU is #1. Then ram, both how much you have and how fast it is. Believe it or not, CPU is not nearly the biggest issue. We've offloaded as much as we can to the graphics card (and also a sound card like the Xfi, btw), and then we alos move around a lot of data in RAM, so more RAM, a faster FSB, pci-express, etc. all help a LOT.

Also, will the beta forums stay up? We know the main forums will be going down, but what about beta?

Undecided at this point. We may keep the beta boards up after launch for the beta players for a couple months, but like I said, not positive at this point (we did do this for EQ, btw).

I realise that probably you cannot answer this question right now but, do you have any idea as to the percentage increase in performance someone with say, a lower end (e.g. 2800 AMD with 1 GB ram and a 9800 Pro) can expect?
|
Honestly, about 10% by launch. Our engine is simply a higher end engine designed to last for years in the future. There is only so much we can do for older machines/graphics cards. Much has been done during beta, but before release, like I said, around 10%. After that we will begin to focus on taking advantage of higher end machines/setups.
btw. for your setup, I am pretty sure you only need to upgrade your graphics card -- 1gb is decent and your cpu is decent. I'd upgrade the graphics card first, and then maybe look into 2gb of ram. Your cpu should be fine.

|
As I've posted for months, we take the Live team and its responsibilities seriously. At this point you'll simply have to take my word for it, but let me say that the features, classes, mechanics, etc. that we have talked about implementing post-launch (plus many more we haven't talked about) are EXTREMELY important to us and you have our full commitment to make them a reality. Like I've posted, I am very proud of Vanguard and what it will be at launch, but at the same time the Vanguard of launch will pale vs the Vanguard in 6 months which will pale vs the Vanguard of 2008, etc. We have plans going out for 5 years! And that I am dead serious about -- I do not exaggerate at all. This game was planned from day one for longevity and to be a long term home for players, giving them not only a fun game at launch but plenty to look forward to. We will also be very open with what we have planned (and have already put up a web page that will grow accordingly to keep you guys informed as to what is to come).
