I think we all agree that a naming policy is necessary to any game. We must start by making the players aware of what the policy is and the intent behind each section. It is also important to enforce the policy consistently. I agree that names of characters can detract from the immersion of the world. The key is to find a fair balance in the policy that gives players the ability to be creative but also to identify names that can negatively affect other players and as a result affect the game.

I like the statement made here “I agree it hurts people who care about immersion when somebody has a silly name; it hurts no one when everybody is required to not have a silly name.”

We have spent many hours on player naming issues and I believe we have come up with a strong plan on how to find that fair and balanced line both with the use of policy and with the implementation of ingame tools.
