I like to explain it my making analogies to music CDs. For example, we're very proud of our first CD. But just doing another similar set of music would mean we were not progressing, learning, or trying new things. Conversely, if our second CD sounds nothing like our first to such a degree that those who enjoyed our first don't care for our second... well, that's bad too.
