Too soon to say too much about this, save for the following: In most cases, if you make or assemble an item by messing around and creating a rare item in the process or finding a secret combine, you are probably going to have a good idea of what something you make does. You may not know exactly for every item. And there is a possibility of "mystery" result items, but that will not be the norm. Quote: Originally Posted by dr4255

How would making a similar potion be handled using ingredients from say mountainous areas, or, if I'm not too far off the mark are there plans to include cactus in mountainous areas as well?
If a potion specifically asks for ground cactus, this is likely a more powerful potion, and you may not be able to make it without cactus specifically. Most basic potions, however, will be more liberal in the ingredients they accept. We have the ability to, and fully plan on, restricting certain ingredients to varying degrees in more powerful recipes.

Since experimenting is going to be a hot topic about making things can we expect from this that there will be some implied means to determine what might or might not work, or, is any kind of experimenting going to be real random chance. It's not enough that maybe we will have a chance of making that super mana potion, but will we also have a chance at making something that is deadly. How does one go about testing a practical experiment?
3. Since potions will be available what can we expect as far as the complexity of such a craft. With the size of the continents, the variations in the landmass can we expect multiple reciepies of the same potion to occur based on variations of different plants, or will certain reciepies only be available from a specific set of ingredients that must be honed down into storable ingredients that will be pulled off a shelf somewhere to build a potion?
Hey Dr
Let me see what I can address for you here.
1. Potion-making will involve many of the types of things you've mentioned in some manner. When you're making a potion, you need the ingredients, as well as a flask to put the solution in.
2. The result of the item is heavily dependant on what you put in. Random chance has its place in recipes as well. Other than that, I can't say much else right now.
3. Recipes will be very diverse and some have different requirements. There are a number of variables that determine the end result of a crafting session. There is a lot of varation in this area.
I hope this helps answer your questions. If not, feel free to follow up.
Edit: Silius beat me to it!

Yes all of crafting uses tools and bowls and beakers are no exception.Quote: Originally Posted by dr4255 2. Experimentation is still up in the air, as it is designed but has never been a definite for launch. Experimenting within a recipe will always be there and trying out combinations will be something you will have to do to learn how to make things but we won’t let you go completely blind.Quote: Originally Posted by dr4255 3. All crafting has diversity (well as much as I have been able to come up with at a reasonable level) and potions should be no different. It just depends on our world and what needs to be supported.
