Also to answer your question, no. I think that there are more factors to what a person precives as time. Nor do I think that we truley understand the complexity of space itself and how it distorts and cycles time.

There isn't any reason why research into time, the oceans, and space can't happen all now. It's best that scientists research what they are interested in/have a talent in. We don't have to conquer or fully master one discipline to look into another. And even if we can't see a direct benefit, some practical we never imagined can often come from the most obscure research.

Nope because time travel would subtract from the total amount of mass and energy in the universe at given point.

The only fiction that came remotely close to addressing this was quantum leap.
