Normally, I always play a male character. However, once I created a halfling rogue named Sharlotte in EQ. She was the cutest little thing and I tried to roleplay her some as it seemed to fit her character. However, if I was actually talking to someone out of character, I was being myself. I thought it would be pretty apparent that I was a male playing a female halfling. Well, around level 10 or so, I ended up grouping with some wood elf. He was a decent player so we grouped a couple of times. One day, he started to try to give me things. I politely declined them and was still somewhat obvlious that there might be more than met the eye in this situation. Finally, after a few conversations, it became apparent he thought I was female. I had to break the news to him and I think he felt rather embarrassed. I never played that character again because I felt so bad that I hurt someone like that.

I should ammend my post, in EQ I lost a bet to a buddy of mine from my guild and when we started alternates to mess around with on I had to start a human female monk. I got her to level 17 and then in Highpass when I was grouped another girl kept calling me "sister" over and over again, and not in an RP way. So I logged off shortly after that and haven't been back on my monk since :P

I've only ever played male characters, but a few friends of mine play females pretty frequently. They always say that if they're going to be spending that much time looking at an avatar, they'd like for it to at least be female.

Makes enough sense to me :P
