I think re-reading at least once is almost a requirement with me (assuming I liked the book). It is like a different experience when you know the outcome, and you pick up on things you might have missed the first time through, and also can see how things develop towards the conclusion you know the book will reach.

And yes, libraries are censored, either directly or indirectly. Directly through the use of filters on the computers. Indirectly through book selection... our town library carries nothing that could ever be considered "controversial"... I don't think I even saw Huckleberry Finn on the shelves. Why bother to visit a library whose content is pitifully limited, and who doesn't carry anything socially interesting?
The place I used to live was terrible. Isn't Disney Land supposed to be "the happiest place on earth"? Well this was "the most ignorant place on earth." They had protests outside the public library because they were having a fun little book event for Harry Potter. They were screaming that Harry Potter was the devil or something ridiculous like that. When I saw it in the paper, I just shook my head in disgust.
They didn't take kindly to them there fancy book learnin' and ma-jeek-al stories.
Suffice to say, I'm glad I moved.

I read all the time. In fact, I don't go anywhere without a book. I have always been that way. I don't have as much time to read as I used to due to having kids, other activities etc., however I still find time to read every day. This is a trait that gets passed down as well. I watch my daughter read voraciously as well. It is a good habit to have.
I do think there has been a shift to more electronic media, especially with websites. I don't find anything wrong with that as reading most website, be they news sites, information sites, etc., will help build vocabulary, stimulate the thought process and even teach you something.
Yes, the cost of books has risen of late. Much of that is probably due to the decline in book sales in general as well as the rise in production costs. However, I am one of those people who makes at least a trip a week to a bookstore, more often 2 or 3 trips, and usually find something that interests me.
Although I didn't particularly care for them, I think the Harry Potter books were excellent in that they got kids reading again. Anything that begins that magic that only reading a book can bring is a wonderful thing in my book.
